A quick note first. This Glenfiddich Experimental Series #01 IPA finish isn't exactly a new entry in the TTB Registry but I found the experiment  highly intriguing so it really deserved to be a news item.

Glenfiddich had a label approved in the American TTB Registry for a series of whisky experiments. Glenfiddich Experimental Series #01 will be a whisky finished in India Pale Ale Casks - a hoppy beer style originating in England's and India's entangled colonial  past.

The back label only states the following:Glenfiddich Experimental Series #01 IPA finish
Glenfiddich experiment single malt Scotch whisky is  finished in India Pale Ale Casks, for zesty and hoppy notes with a sweet vanilla oak flavour.

This Glenfiddich IPA finish can be interpreted as a NAS expression combining the classic Glenfiddich flavours with hoppy citrus notes from the casks. I'm guessing this will be a new travel retail series sprouting from the marketing boys at William Grant. But one that intrigues me very much so I'll be looking out for it...

It's not the first steps from the people behind Glenfiddich into beer cask finishes. The brand Grant's has already an Ale Cask finish in it's core range.
