Ardbeg An Oa

Ardbeg An Oa might be the new expression for Ardbeg's core range (next to the 10yo, Uigeadail and Corryvreckan). Bill Lumsden already hinted at a new addition in an interview with Mark Gillespie from Whiskycast. The name has been circulating for a few months. The labels have now appeared on Colas which probably means the new Ardbeg single malt will hit the markets very soon.

The Ardbeg 10 is matured in bourbon casks. Uigeadail is a vatting of bourbon and sherry casks. Corryvreckan is a vatting of bourbon and french oak casks. And Ardbeg An Oa? it will be a vatting of new charred oak, PX sherry casks and first fill bourbon. That Ardbeg An Oa does not carry an age statement (NAS) is hardly a surprise anymore.

Entries from the TTB Public Registry (Alcohol and Tobacco Tax & Trade Bureau) are a fairly reliable source for upcoming new whiskies. Although not all entries make it to the market. There’s always the possibility a brand decides not to launch a whisky, even if the label has been approved. Until the distillery sends out a press release, this whisky should be considered a rumour…
